Mix Tape

I'm in my room thinking about the mix tape project. I'm not sure who should I create it for and what songs should I put on there. The mix tape project is so hard to make. Thinking about it makes my head hurt. There are so many factors to consider for the best mix tape. Plus there are so many songs from so many genres that I like. Also I never listen to only one genre. The problems that I am having is: who to make it for, what genre of music, the meaning to the mix tape, the meaning of the songs, the artist, artist style, genre that person prefers, and transitions.
I think the problems I will be facing next is what the order of songs go in and does each song belong in the mix. Back to work.

I also ran into several problems when choosing the songs for my mix tape. I kept on trying to stick to a narrow theme and then when I began to choose songs I looked at their lyrics and realized that the song did not go along with my theme. Finally, I decided to throw out the theme and make a mix tape of songs that the person really enjoys and songs that contain meaning to the both of us. That worked much better for me! Good luck!

I had the same problem, I love all types of music from all different times. I love 'old school' music, but also new stuff. But it made it easier knowing who I was making the cd for, my boyfriend who mainly listens to only one type of music. I don't really understand why mix tape music can't be different styles/genres as long as it flows...

I agree with Selena. Once you figure out who to give it to, then it is much easier. Narrowing your audience narrows the genre and theme. Once you pick a theme or genre, then the track listing becomes easier to choose, and finally the order falls into place. I hope yours turned out well!
